Cardiovascular Research is searching for an experienced, highly motivated and dynamic individual.The candidate will join a team responsible for assisting in development and evaluation of new therapeutics for cardiovascular diseases, specifically in the area of thrombosis and hemostasis.
Responsibilities:
Independently plan, initiate and complete in vivo experiments that adhere to scientific protocols approved for thrombosis and hemostasis in mice.
Independently plan, initiate and complete in vitro experiments using the Chronolog platelet aggregometer with human aphresed platelets or prepared mouse platelet rich plasma.
Contribute to project advancement with regular readings and discussions of scientific literature pertinent to reseach projects.
Capable of learning and developing new methods and/or technologies relevant to the projects
Able to routinely work on multiple projects simultaneously
Perform routine calculations for drug formulation and dosing, manipulations with minimal supervision, analyzes and interprets the data and determine next steps
Outstanding ability to communicate experimental results to project team andlor supervisor and present data at team meetings
Proficient in writing experimental protocols or methodological SOPs with minimal guidance, writing technical sections of internal and external reports that require minimal supervision
Accurately document findings and lab records in laboratory notebook and as soft copies.
Planning and execution of In vivo and in vitro work: 50%
Necropsy/tissue collection: 5%
Histology: 30%
Lab notebook recordkeeping: 5%
Presentation of the data: 5%
Supporting lab organization/safety: 5%
Experience and Required Skills:
Requirements:
The position requires Bachelors degree with 5-8 years of post-degree laboratory experience or Masters degree with 2-5 years of post-degree laboratory experience.
Basic understanding and knowledge of cardiovascular biology with an emphasis on thrombosis and hemostasis
Knowledge of and hands-on experience with rodent models of thrombosis and hemostasis; multiple years of experience using techniques to induce thrombosis in rodents Multiple years of experience operating the Chronology platelet aggregometer with human and mouse platelet samples
Familiarity with sample collection (blood and tissue) and proficiency in administration of compounds (via s.c/i.p/i.v routes) .
Experience in rodent histology staining, imaging and histopathology evaluation are desired
Computer skills such as experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Graph Pad Prism, SPSS, and AD Instruments Lab Chart
Strong organization and communication skills
Effective interpersonal skills Ability to learn new technologies/methods, and troubleshooting Ability to work in a team environment.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
