Essential Functions:

Summary:
The purpose of this Job is to provide technical support for in vivo projects in pain and neurology. Duties would include conducting animal procedures (handling, surgery, behavioral testing, sacrifices), tissue collection (fresh and fixed), and tissue processing (biochemical and histological). In addition, the research associate will compile, organize, and analyze data, as well as prepare it for presentation.
Responsibilities:
Conduct animal related procedures including injections, surgical procedures, behavioral testing, health monitoring, fluid collect (blood and cerebrospinal), sacrifices,and tissue dissection/collection with a special focus on the collection of neurological tissues such as brain, spinal cord, dorsal root ganglia, nerves, and other peripheral ganglia.
Process tissue collected from experiments by various methods, including histologically or biochemically (eg. Western blots, ELISAs, etc.). Submit tissues, as needed, for genetic analysis.
Process, compile, analyze, and graph data using imaging software (eg. Spot, ImageJ, Neurolucida, Stereo Investigator), database software (eg. Excel) and statistical software (eg. Prism or SPSS).
Prepare data for presentation using Powerpoint and present data in team meetings.
Maintain complete and detailed records including a laboratory notebook and server files.
Participate in basic laboratory maintenance and stocking.
Experience and Required Skills:
At least a full year of laboratory experience (during college is acceptable).
Knowledge of MS-Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
Experience handling laboratory animals
Experience administering injections to animals
Experience with either animal surgeries, blood collection, or tissue dissections
Experience with behavioral testing
Experience with basic laboratory techniques such as measuring and pipetting
Desirable:
Knowledge of at least one statistical software package
This position will require the individual to pass a physical before beginning employment.
